Fall 2009 Attendance Policy Changes
The Cumberland County Board of Education made changes to the attendance policy on August 28, 2008. Since the changes occurred during the fall semester and our student handbooks reflect the old Board policy, each high school, CCHS and SMHS, will begin implementation in January for the Spring semester 2009. Parents, please review the changes on the BOE attendance policy marked with an asterisk symbol, then sign the cover letter (to be sent home) acknowledging you have received and read the copy of the changes to BOE policy regarding attendance. This signed cover letter should be brought back to school as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please call us at 931-484-5767.
Changes are as follows:
*A maximum of five (5) days per semester will be recognized as excused absence with parent notes.
*Up to two (2) days per semester will be excused with parent notes for exam exemption.
An attendance incentive program that recognizes both academic performance and attendance will be administered as outlined below.
Students will be excused from semester tests when they meet the following semester grade and semester absence criteria:
*A average and a maximum of 3 days excused absence.
*B average and a maximum of 2 days excused absence.
*C Average and a maximum of 1 day excused absence
Welcome to all SMHS Panthers. Our beautiful new school is now going into its third year. We have new Advanced Placement and Dual Credit curriculum offerings, along with a variety of academic, fine arts, wellness, and vocational classes, extra-curricular activities, and sports. Please take advantage of these opportunities to make your high school years as memorable and challenging as possible. We encourage you to be involved in your school life and help SMHS develop and grow our new traditions.
We, as administrators, faculty, and support staff, encourage you to
build relationships with us and call on us to help you in any way that
we can. We are all Panthers and if we work together we can make
SMHS not just a beautiful new campus, but also a safe, caring, challenging
place to spend some of the best days of your lives and get an exceptional
education that will prepare you for the rest of your life.
Sincerely,
Janet
