SMHS students, you are each given one precious time in life to be in high school and get your unique education. Take advantage of this special time, be involved, do your best, work harder than you’ve ever worked, and participate in those things that are of interest to you.
As Dr. Seuss said in one of his children’s books, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.” We encourage you to “steer yourself” into challenging classes, extracurricular activities, competitions, and sports. You do not know how smart you are or what you can accomplish until you put yourself in positions that challenge you to do your best.
At SMHS we try to live by our motto: “Where today’s success meets tomorrow’s dreams.” I believe what we are trying to say is similar to what Plato said many years ago, “The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future.” The entire staff at SMHS is committed to providing a nurturing and challenging environment where you as a student can discover and develop your talents and feel the pleasure of accomplishment and success.
Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you’re right.” Our hope is that you will “think you can”. Let’s make this another great year to be a Panther.
Sincerely,
Janet
